Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): Mainstays of Management and Advances in Treatment

Learning Objectives
1. Integrate new knowledge regarding guidelines and recommendations for treating SLE and associated multiorgan inflammatory conditions and adjust treatment regimens and monitoring parameters to accommodate variations in treatment response.
2. Increase efforts to stay up to date about current therapies, recently approved drugs, and add-on treatments for SLE, lupus nephritis, and other associated conditions, and actively update my practice approach and my health care team colleagues as new data emerges.
3. Explore the eligibility of my current patients for enrollment in ongoing clinical trials investigating future SLE treatments and provide them with information and connections with other health care professionals that can enhance the likelihood of improving their health outcomes and quality of life.
4. Facilitate discussions with patients with SLE that cover how to best establish and achieve goals of therapy and ensure that they are aware of their therapeutic choices, as well as the details surrounding the withdrawal of immunosuppressive treatments, including the importance of timing and the associated risks.
