Frequently Asked Questions
- What is changing?
-
On February 24, 2026, the organization begins a significant evolution, beginning with a new public identity, moving from the Commission for Case Manager Certification to The Commission™. At the same time, it’s launching a new website supported by integrated technology.
This evolution creates a stronger foundation for expanded professional development opportunities, new tools, and future certificate and certification programs; it also refreshes CCM® and CDMS® materials.
What’s not changing are the fundamentals: the organization’s nonprofit status, its accreditations, leadership, and governance. The Commission will continue to hold itself and the CCM and CDMS certification and renewal processes to the highest standards.
You’ll begin seeing the new name and website on February 24, 2026, followed by a transition period during which both names may appear together to ensure clarity and continuity.
- Is the organization being reorganized or replaced?
-
No. This is not a reorganization, merger, or replacement. We have simply expanded our mission to include all client advocacy professionals. A client advocacy professional represents the interests of clients in complex health, social, employer and community settings, ensuring that clients’ needs and concerns are addressed.
The Commission™ will continue to administer the same NCCA-accredited professional certification programs with the same governance and subject matter expert leadership. In addition, The Commission™ remains an Accredited Provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) and an approved provider of continuing education for New York State licensed social workers by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Oversight of CCM® and CDMS® certification, recertification, and related standards remain unchanged. The Commission will continue to operate using the same evidence-based processes, ethical standards, and client-protection principles as always.
- Why change the name after more than 30 years?
-
Over time, the organization’s work has expanded beyond a single professional certification program. The name The Commission™ reflects a broader role supporting multiple professional certification programs and professional development offerings, while maintaining the trust and credibility built over decades.
- Why is The Commission™ expanding to meet the needs of a broader audience and why is this happening now?
-
The transition is part of a long-term plan to ensure the organization remains strong, relevant, and prepared for the next decade serving individuals and employers interested in professional development and certification while equipping a future-ready workforce.
As the market continues to change and opportunities for client advocacy professionals expand, The Commission™ will be positioned to meet new and growing demands for certification and educational offerings beyond case management and certified disability management.
Several factors contributed to this decision:
- Health, disability, and human services roles are evolving.
- Client advocacy professionals’ responsibilities are expanding across settings and disciplines.
- Technology and value-based models are changing expectations.
- Supports the organization’s long-term growth plan.
The organization will evolve while continuing to protect the integrity of certification, certificate and professional development programs.
- Is the mission changing?
-
The mission is expanding. Certification excellence remains central, with an added focus on life-long learning and workforce readiness across a broader variety of professional settings.
- Who will The Commission™ serve going forward?
-
The Commission™ will continue to serve Board-Certified Case Managers and Board-Certified Disability Management Specialists, those preparing for certification, and other client advocacy professionals. It will also continue to support health systems, community and social service organizations, public health, government agencies, and employers who invest in the professional development of client advocacy professionals.
- Are the CCM or CDMS credentials changing?
-
No. As of February 24, 2026, you will continue to have:
- The same eligibility requirements
- The same type of evidence-based exams and related delivery
- The same accreditation
You will continue to maintain and use your CCM® and/or CDMS® exactly as you do today.
Note: In accordance with credentialing best practices and research, The Commission’s™ Board may, from time to time, update eligibility requirements and standards based on certification program role and function changes.
- Will recertification, renewal, or CE requirements change?
-
As of February 24, 2026, renewal cycles, continuing education requirements, and documentation rules for both credentials remain the same. While access to records may become simpler over time, the requirements themselves are unchanged.
Note: In accordance with credentialing best practices and research, The Commission’s™ Board may update eligibility requirements and standards based on certification program role and function changes.
- Will employers still recognize my certification?
-
Yes. Employer recognition of both CCM® and CDMS® credentials is a priority. During the transition, you will see language such as “formerly known as” to reinforce continuity and avoid confusion.
You can continue listing CCM or CDMS exactly as you do today.
