Job Task Analysis
The Commission is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and performs a Job Task Analysis (JTA) every five years. The JTA is a structured, data-driven research process used to define and analyze the critical tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities in a profession to establish exam content validity. The process begins with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) drafting a framework of job domains and tasks, followed by a large-scale validation survey sent to active certificants who rate each task based on frequency, importance and criticality/risk of harm. The resulting data is statistically evaluated to establish a weighted exam blueprint, which is then paired with a formal standard-setting study where an SME panel evaluates test items against a "minimally qualified candidate" to determine a psychometrically sound, criterion-referenced passing score.
